If you are dealing with diabetes, more than likely you have had your doctor tell you to avoid eating too much sugar in your diet. However, you may be wondering what happens when you intake too much sugar with type 2 diabetes? This is a valid question, and knowing the answer can save you some problems in the future.

You see, people who have type 2 diabetes are not able to process sugar the way that most people can. The body either doesn’t have enough natural insulin in it to keep blood sugar down or it is not able to use it right. This means that your body can’t react in a healthy way towards sugar unless it has some help, by way of medications, diet, or exercise.

Over time having blood sugar levels that are too high can have a negative impact on your entire health as well. If you already have type 2 diabetes and you are taking in too much sugar, you are putting yourself at a higher risk for some of the complications that can come along with diabetes.

There are a variety of complications that can occur when you have type 2 diabetes. Some of them include kidney disease, neuropathy, eye disease, heart disease, strokes, and more. What happens when you intake too much sugar with type 2 diabetes? Well, you begin to make these complications worse or you make your risk of developing them much worse as well. Taking in too much sugar could eventually end your life, which is why it’s so important that you eat a careful diet and get exercise as a diabetic.

Now that you understand the negative effects of eating too much sugar, it’s important that you act on that knowledge. Make sure that you eat a healthy diet. Avoid taking in too much sugar. This way you can avoid some of the dangerous problems that can occur in the future. Watching your diet and avoiding too much sugar can lower your risk of negative complications in the future. In fact, it could actually save your life – it’s that important.
