Every person who has diabetes have difficult problems, which comes from the various degrees of complications that they may be dealing with. Because of the differences, some are able to eat a few more carbs than others. However, the types of foods that you should be avoiding, and those foods that you should be eating, is going to be the same for every person who is dealing with diabetes.

Many diabetics are not quite sure what they should be eating, so they go looking for a list of foods for type 2 diabetes. Here is a list of the foods that you should be incorporating into your diet as well as some foods that you’ll probably want to limit or avoid altogether.

Foods to Avoid

When you are looking for a list of foods for a type 2 diabetes diet, it’s important that you see a list of foods that you are going to need to avoid. Avoiding some foods is going to be as important as eating others. When it comes to foods that you need to avoid, you definitely need to stay away from sugars and even artificial sweeteners should be limited as well. Sweets, such as chocolate, should be avoided as well, although a very dark chocolate may be okay from time to time.

Products that are made with white flour should be avoided and you’ll want to limit certain grains or foods that include them. Starchy veggies should be limited, especially parsnips, beets, and potatoes. Milk should only be consumed in small amounts, and it’s important that you are careful about eating yogurts that include fruit or those that are sweetened. Beware of fruit juices as well, since they are high in sugar. If you want to drink juice, dilute it with water so you don’t get as many calories or as much sugar when you drink it.

Foods to Add to Your Diet

While it may feel that there are many don’ts, when you look at a list of foods for type 2 diabetes, you’ll find that there are many great foods that you can eat as well. Most meats are find for you to eat, such as bacon, pork, lamb, and even beef. Chicken is a great choice, as is turkey. Fish and seafood is a great addition to your diet. Eggs are excellent options, although you don’t want to eat too many.

Cheeses are excellent to eat, although you don’t want to go overboard because of the fat content. Fruits and vegetables are definitely going to be a great addition to your diet, and you should have 5-6 servings of fruits and veggies each day. Yogurt that is plain and natural, without fruit or added sugar, is also another food option that you can eat on a diabetic diet.
