Diet Soda and Diabetes

In regards to the A1C tests, studies have been done on diet soda and diabetes, and how drinking diet soda can affect this test. A study that was published in the Annals of Epidemiology actually discovered that those with diabetes that consumed at least one diet soda on a daily basis ended up having A1C results that were close to a percentage point higher than others who did not drink diet soda as well.

The American Heart Association published another study on diet soda that is very disturbing as well. They studied over 6000 adults that were middle aged, and after studying them for some time, they found that those who drank diet soda were more at risk for metabolic syndrome. This is essentially a group of risk factors, which include risk for diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and more.

With all these new studies coming out that show negative effects of diet soda, it may be time to consider some other beverage option. When it comes to diet soda and diabetes, diet soda may not be the great choice that so many people think it is. Probably the best beverage option for those concerned about sugar and calories is water. Water has no calories and no sugar, and it’s great for the body. So, you may want to consider giving up those diet sodas and instead you may want to start buying bottled water.
